Cape Fear

Cape Fear directed by Martin Scorsese and titles by Saul Bass in 1991.

The opening to this film is full of subtle clues for us to figure out through conventions of a Thriller film.
The music to the opening is very suspenseful, low pitch, and very ominous this connotes a thriller and builds a creepy atmosphere.
There is an extreme close up of an eye which is a reference to looking and voyeurism which is a convention of a thriller film.
The lighting is very low key and dark which has a reference to fear and possible death.
The credits have waves rippling behind to connote part of the narrative to be water based, perhaps set at a fall or a lake?
There is an mid shot of an eagle at a low angle which is a decending predatory bird. The low angle is symbolic for the antagonist who is a powerful predator who is hunding for its victims.
From death imagery of a knife the conventions of a thriller being based around a crime/murder is connoted.
There is blood dropping connoting tear drops or death imagery again. The 'tear drops' link in with the water reference.
