Cape Fear Title Sequence

The film 'Cape Fear' is a production made by Scorsese in 1991, with Saul Bass' titles incorporated.
  • There is an idea of voyeurism when there is an extreme close-up of an eye- linked with identity.
  • There is intense music, suggesting the thriller and leading to suspense.
  • We see rippling water which suggests a lake, or even drowning. (reference to narrative)
  • Blood dripping/tear drops- death imagery
  • We also see a knife- the colour red appears after drip of blood
  • The title sequence is mostly in black/low key lighting- symbol of death
  • An eagle is seen from a low angle- predatory bird- symbolic of antagonist being powerful, how they could hurt victims.
This is a very suspenseful opening sequence- all the right intentions of a thriller
