Saul Bass

Saul Bass was a film-maker who was best known for his opening title sequences. He was involved with films such as: North by Northwest, Psycho, West Side Story, Oceans 11 and Casino.

Saul was so influential as he made title sequences so memorable and created a new kinetic typography. Before the 1950s titles were usually very static and separate from the movie that no on really paid much attention of.
Influencing his title sequences was the goal of getting the audience to see familiar parts of their world in an unfamiliar way. Examples of this or what he described as “making the ordinary extraordinary”.
Bass once described his main goal for his title sequences as being to ‘’try to reach for a simple, visual phrase that tells you what the picture is all about and evokes the essence of the story”
