The Prestige

After watching the opening sequence as research in class, I decided to watch the rest of 'The Prestige' with my family at home. I was interested in what they thought of the film, and if they thought it was a good, conventional thriller.

Like me, they agreed that the opening sequence was enticing, and wanted to know what was going to happen next. The opening sequence brings you straight into the story, using a narrator. The film begins with the end, making it more suspenseful- (as you want to know how and why the character drowned). We have planned to begin our film at the end.

As the film is about rivalry between two magicians performing the ultimate illusion, it is fast moving, with the use of flashback and quick passed editing it fits the title of a perfect thriller.

My family really enjoyed the film! They very much enjoyed the suspense factor, and the conventional antagonist leading protagonist into webs of intrigue, and the massive twist at the final scene (very unexpected!)  The Prestige was a strong film for using themes of identity! I feel that our opening sequence will be very different to this thriller, as we have chosen to use harsh, dim lighting, whereas this film was very well lit in most shots. I hope that our opening sequence will be as suspenseful, leading the audience to know what happens next, hopefully we will achieve this through high pitch, uncomfortable music, lighting and the different editing techniques we will use.
